A COMPOST PILE, A MOUND
A large all leaf compost pile in Blacksburg Virginia. The town dumps a couple truckloads of leaves each fall. A pile like this will turn into fully mature ready-to-use compost in about 2 years. The slow approach.
This a common compost pile which is built by layering leaves with kitchen scraps, leaves with kitchen scraps..or straw...or manure..... It will mature more quickly if turned over with a garden fork or shovel every couple weeks, but if it doesn’t get turned, it’ll still turn into something awesome! The compost from this sort of pile will be ready for use in 6 to 12 months.

An inexpensive way to make a bin for your compost is with free pallets secured together. You can create a single chamber like Max, or even a triple chambered one like Jim.
